intimate outdoor wedding venue
Tucked away in the Northeastern corner of Connecticut is a peaceful paradise where love meets nature. The owner, Andy, is the land manager for some of the most pristine nature preserves in the Quiet Corner, the Audubon Society’s nature preserves and Wyndham Land Trust properties. While Andy is most known in the area for leading bird watches through the Audubon, friends know him as a gardening expert, especially for propagating lilies.
The story of Green Haven begins with a young boy working as a landscaper on what is now known as Green Haven. The home that was originally there (before the current home), was occupied by a rather eccentric art collector. She led an independent life, channeling her curiosity and resources into collecting art and sculptures. You can see some of the rock sculptures today on the property.
The lady was also knowledgeable about birds and nature, and trusted the hired boy to manage her property throughout her elderly life. That young boy is who you know today as Andy. After she passed, the property surrounding the house was purchased by Andy. The home was rebuilt, gardens enhanced to what it is today.
In 2020, a past client introduced Andy to Ling of Trailing Twine Photography. With dreams of sharing this paradise with couples, conversations began about creating a micro-wedding venue. Ling worked with Andy on some possible names to call this paradise that speaks of just a simple, private space for couples who don’t want much pomp and circumstance, but just a serene haven to speak vows and toast to their future. Introducing, Green Haven.

vows in a nature haven
There are a few places for ceremonies. We’ve photographed in the Owl Glade and also under the Giving Tree. The Owl Glade is unique in that there’s a rare Sequoia tree that has stood the test of time. While this sequoia tree tucked away in the back of the property, the most noticeable is the Giving Tree. Sweeps of chiffon fabric and florals decorate it’s expansive, low-laying branches.
cheers among the flowers
Weddings are Green Haven are simple. Vows, some portraits, and a champagne toast with cake. Appetizers or dinner may be served for those who want a more extensive affair. But overall, couples book this venue for its enchanted, nature setting and vibrant colors of flowers for saying their vows. It feels like another world.
green haven at end of May to early june
Early May is when everything starts to grow, but at the end of May, you’ll be able to see some flowers starting to bloom. It’s a great time of the year, since the weather isn’t that hot.
green haven in july & august
July and August is when Green Haven shows off its colors. Hundreds of lilies start blooming, and wildflowers are waving in the wind. Ending the wedding with portraits in the lower light is a favorite, because the setting sun illuminates the flowers.
green haven in september & october
Fall is a favorite for many couples. In October, the red maple trees are vibrant for photos. The variety of trees on the property provide great settings for portraits.
green haven in THE FALL
While late October can be cold, afternoons where the sun is shining is just enough light to provide some warmth and dynamic to photos. Here are some photos taken at Green Haven during the last few days of foliage on the leaves.
